Beetroot Powder – Natural Energy, Circulation & Vitality for Your Horse

Beetroot (Beta vulgaris) is one of nature’s true superfoods – rich in colour, flavour, and a wealth of nutrients that support your horse’s vitality, circulation, and overall well-being.
Used since ancient times for its healing properties, beetroot helps strengthen the immune system, supports liver function, promotes detoxification, and contributes to healthy blood formation and oxygen supply.

Its naturally sweet, earthy taste makes it a favourite among horses – while its impressive nutrient profile makes it an excellent addition to any feeding plan focused on natural strength and balance.

Why Beetroot is so Valuable

1️⃣ Supports Blood Formation & Oxygen Supply
Beetroot contains iron, copper, vitamin B6, and folic acid – a combination that naturally supports the production of red blood cells and improves oxygen transport throughout the body.
This makes it ideal during coat change, recovery, or periods of high activity.

2️⃣ Promotes Liver Function & Detoxification
The naturally occurring compound betaine stimulates liver cells and bile flow, helping the body eliminate toxins more efficiently and supporting overall metabolic balance.
It also helps reduce homocysteine levels in the blood, promoting healthy circulation and vessel function.

3️⃣ Strengthens the Immune System
Rich in vitamin C, manganese, selenium, zinc, and folic acid, beetroot helps protect the body’s natural defences and supports cell renewal.
The deep red pigment betanin acts as a powerful antioxidant, reducing oxidative stress and inflammation.

4️⃣ Supports Muscles, Circulation & Digestion
With its high levels of potassium, magnesium, and calcium, beetroot supports muscle and nerve function, while flavonoids and saponins promote healthy digestion and nutrient absorption.

5️⃣ For Skin, Coat & Tissue Health
Beetroot is naturally rich in provitamin A (beta-carotene) and folic acid, which aid in cell regeneration and the maintenance of healthy skin and mucous membranes – contributing to a shiny coat and strong connective tissue.

What to Keep in Mind

As with all natural feeds, beetroot should be given in moderation.
It contains small amounts of natural sugars (fructose, glucose, sucrose – around 8–9 g per 100 g fresh root), so horses with insulin resistance or EMS should receive it only in limited quantities.

Beetroot also contains oxalic acid and nitrate, which in excessive amounts can reduce the absorption of certain minerals such as zinc and calcium.

However, when fed appropriately and alongside a balanced mineral supplement, it poses no risk and offers valuable support for the metabolism.
